In Memoriam – Former UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Sadako Ogata

The RHP Family would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of the Former UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Sadako Ogata, who recently passed away.

Mrs. Ogata, who led the UNHCR from 1991 to 2000, was a determined advocate for the rights of refugees. She was also a committed champion of the Regional Housing Programme from its early days, and the largest private donor to the Programme to date. A respected academic, Mrs. Ogata remained closely involved with the refugee cause during her subsequent tenure as President of JICA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The RHP will remember Mrs. Ogata for her lasting commitment, compassion and vigour, which without question contributed to the success of the Programme today.
