“This new apartment will be our salvation”: Keys to 14 apartments are handed over to RHP refugee families in Vrbas, Serbia

Vrbas, Serbia, 16 June 2023 – A further 14 refugee families in Vrbas, Serbia celebrated the receipt of keys to their newly-constructed Regional Housing Programme (RHP) apartments today.

The ceremony was hosted by Nataša Stanisavljević, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia (KIRS), and attended by Gerhard Salzer, Programme Manager at the European Union Delegation to Serbia; Jasna Bjelica, Member of the Council for Social Affairs of Vrbas Municipality, and Jovan Lazarov, Chief of Cabinet of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Ltd., amongst others.

RHP beneficiary Ratomir Pajović and his family were hugely relieved to receive a secure home. “We were struggling all the time,he explained. “I worked day and night, in all kinds of jobs, to afford the rent. The new apartment will be our salvation.”

Congratulating the beneficiaries on their new homes, Ms. Bjelica said:This beautiful RHP building, which was built thanks to the European Union and other Donors, will be home to 14 families from today. In receiving their keys, these refugee families are turning over a new page in their lives.”
